Executive Summary

 

Solar-powered water pumps use solar energy for its power source. The operation of solar powered pumps is more economical and has less environmental impact than pumps powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE). A solar water pump is driven by solar energy through photovoltaic cells as opposed to grid electricity or diesel motors. Solar pumps are useful where grid electricity is unavailable and wind powered pumps do not provide adequate performance. They are specially designed to utilize DC electric power from photovoltaic panels, or the heat from collected sunlight.

 

People generally SWITCH ON the pump when their taps go dry and SWITCH OFF the pump when the overhead tank starts overflowing. The circuit that we are using is automatic water level controller. It SWITCHES ON the pump when the water level in the overhead tank goes low and SWITCHES OFF as soon as the water level reaches a pre-determined level. It also prevents ‘dry run’ of the pump in case the level in the tank goes below the suction level.

 

This project explains how solar powered water pumping system works and the differences with the other energy sources. The main advantage of this water level controller circuit is that it automatically controls the water pump without any user interaction, hence controlling the unnecessary wastage of water.
